Privacy Policy update: WitchCatcher and notifications
October 29, 2026 - Darrel Herbst
We have updated our Privacy Policy. The changes take effect on 29 October 2026.
The update describes WitchCatcher in its own right. Until now the Privacy Policy covered the WitchCatcher website but not the app. In summary:
- Guest counts never leave your device. You can count witch hats without an account, and we do not receive those counts.
- An account means an email address and a public username. Your username and your hat counts appear on public leaderboards. Check-ins at stores and events, including any notes you write, are private to you.
- Notifications are off until you turn them on. If you turn them on, the app stores a notification token so we can send you the two notifications the app offers: a new article on our website, and another player passing you at the top of the day’s leaderboard. The token is never used for advertising and never shared beyond the services that carry the message. Turning notifications off removes it.
- Deleting your account removes all of it, including any device registered for notifications. You can do that in the app or at witchcatcher.com/delete-account.
We are posting this notice because the Privacy Policy asks us to tell you here whenever we make a substantive change to how we use your information.
